Mary Power’s career and volunteer work have focused on strengthening communities through local engagement, comprehensive planning and partnership initiatives. She worked as a city planner with the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency and helped revitalize the Santa Monica Pier. She worked for many years at Harvard University leading community relations and building closer ties with neighboring communities resolving issues of campus expansion and shaping collaborative partnerships.
Mary, and her husband have called Belmont home for 30 years. They have four children all of whom attended (two currently attend) Belmont Public schools. Locally, Mary has served on the School Committee, Warrant Committee, Town Meeting, Fair Housing Committee, Belmont Center Planning Group and the Vision 21 Implementation Committee.
Mary has a degree in environmental studies from the the University of California, Santa Barbara and spent a year in Sweden studying architecture. She grew up in Portland, Oregon but these days spends more time in the vicinity of Portland, Maine renovating a log cabin on Casco Bay.
